Ash From Taal Volcano Eruption Blamed For Agoncillo, Batangas Flood

TAAL VOLCANO – The recent eruption of Taal Volcano has been blamed for the flooding in some villages in the municipality of Agoncillo, Batangas.

TAAL VOLCANO

Agoncillo Mayor Daniel Reyes said that the flooding happened due to the deposited ash from the recent eruption in the said volcano that prevented the ground from absorbing rainwater.

“Binaha nga kami noong isang araw, kamakalawa. Malakas po ang ulan. Yun po kasi ‘yung resulta, kapag bumuhos po ‘yung ulan, may mga deposited ash tayo, na-convert po siya, parang lahar na po,”

According to GMA News, Reyes added that in some areas in the said town, floods are common.

“Ngayon po, because of the deposited ash, hindi po talaga naa-absorb ng lupa ‘yung tubig dahil doon sa mga abo na makapal na po,”

The mayor added that creeks were clogged by ash and other debris. This caused the current to spill to the residential areas in the municipality.

Barangay Banyaga and other areas in Laurel town were also affected by the mudflow, Reyes said.

Based on the report, Reyes said that the government is currently executing clearing operations.
