Former MMDA Officer Yves Gonzales Proposed Bike Sharing System at EDSA

Yves Gonzales Urge Gov’t to Establish Bike Sharing System in EDSA

Former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) officer Yves Gonzalez proposed to establish bike sharing system in EDSA.

The former traffic discipline head of MMDA, has proposed re-establishing the bike sharing system at EDSA as the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) is being implemented in Metro Manila.

“Number one I think magandang i-explore ulit ‘yung bike sharing. Nowadays meron na tayong bus sa EDSA na parang ‘yon yung trunkline pero ang problema wala pa rin ‘yung feeder lines. So it would be good para doon sa mga kasamahan natin na walang sariling bike na meron sanang bike-sharing mechanism,” Yves said in Paolo Contis’ talk show “Just In.”

Under the bike sharing mechanism when he was in the MMDA, a person could take a bicycle to a point in his EDSA vehicle and return it or leave it at the other point of his destination.

“So I think right now, bike sharing would really help sa mga kababayan natin na walang sariling bike,” said Yves.

“Pero kung kaya mong makabili ng sarili mong bike, any personal mobility device, motorsiklo, scooter, it’s really a good time to invest in that because hindi lang siya investment sa mobility mo eh, investment siya sa health mo dahil it’s much better to have your own mobility device than iri-risk mo talaga ‘yung personal health mo ‘di ba? And siyempre para rin sa pamilya mo ‘di ba?,” Yves added.

At the ease of community quarantine in Metro Manila, employees are now allowed to go back to work. However, their major problem when travelling to office is the public transportation. Government urges residents to use bicycle and other alternative transportation to avoid contact with the crowd.
