Under GCQ, there’s no more cash aid, Roque said
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said on Saturday’s press briefing that under the general community quarantine, the government will no longer give cash aid.
On May 30, the Roque has announced the areas that will be under GCQ from the enhanced community quarantine status, based on the previous report. This new status will be implemented from June 1 to 15.
In line with this, based on the recent report from Rappler, families with low-income will no longer receive cash aid from the government. To recall, amid the ECQ, poor families received “ayuda” through the social amelioration program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
“Itong buwan ng Hunyo, dahil lahat na tayo ay nasa GCQ na ay wala pong ayuda,” the Presidential Spokesperson said. However, there will be an exception to those families under localized enhanced community quarantine or lockdown as declared by the local government unit (mayors or governors).
Roque added, “But in the resolution of the IATF (inter-agency task force), there are still barangays, zones, buildings, subdivisions that can be subjected to ECQ…. For those in pockets of ECQ, of course, we will look for a way to give them aid.”
Based on the report, the national government has given the LGUs in highly-urbanized areas the power to decide if the ECQ will be implemented depending on the COVID-19 situation. However, this decision must be approved by the IATF first before it will be implemented.
Here are the areas under GCQ from June 1:
- Metro Manila
- Pangasinan
- Region 2
- Region 3
- Region 4A
- Region 7
- Cebu City
- Mandaue City
- Zamboanga City
- Davao City
