Philippine Domestic Flights Between GCQ Areas Allowed

PHILIPPINE DOMESTIC FLIGHTS ALLOWED – According to the Department of Transportation, domestic flights between areas under a GCQ are now allowed.

On June 1, the government will lift the enhanced community quarantine and transition into a general community quarantine. With this, restrictions would ease, and travel between areas also under GCQ are now allowed.

However, yesterday marked a significant spike in the number of coronavirus cases in the Philippines. The country recorded more than 500 coronavirus cases yesterday following statements from officials that we are winning against the virus.

Meanwhile, according to an article from ABS-CBN, aviation authorities would also expand international air travel to Clark, Cebu, and Davao. Additionally, Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade stated there would be testing centers for arriving international passengers.

As per the report, aviation authorities also communicated with local hospitals to do tests for passengers for suspected COVID-19 infections.

Furthermore, despite the continued increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, the DOTr chief stated that they would open up more international gateways in the following weeks. These included places such as Zamboanga, Iloilo, Bohol, and Bacolod.

Metro Manila was placed under an Enhanced Community Quarantine in March. Two months after the lockdown period, restriction started to ease. However, health experts believe that the country had prematurely eased the restrictions and fear an onslaught of new cases.
