Vehicular Mishap In Batangas Left With PCG Frontliner Dead

BATANGAS – A Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) frontliner was killed in an accident in Batangas, while six others were injured.

The PCG said that one of the tires of the multi-purpose van, which carried the frontliners exploded along STAR Tollway in the municipality of Ibaan in the province at around 2:43 PM, according to Inquirer.

The van came from Sta. Clara town, still in the province, and was heading to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in order to assist repatriated OFWs.

The fatality was identified as Apprentice Seaman (ASN) Cenen Epetito who was declared dead on arrival at theBatangas Healthcare Specialists Medical Center.

Meanwhile, ASN Adrian Añonuevo sustained minor hematoma and is still under intensive medical supervision.

As per the report, the other injured were identified as the following:

  • Seaman Second Class (SN2) Pacifico Casipi
  • SN2 Erdie Rojales
  • ASN Rouin Alvarez
  • ASN John Kristopher Mojica
  • Candidate Coast Guard Man (CCGM) McLester Saguid

They were considered conscious and coherent when they arrived in the hospital and were eventually declared in “good physical condition” after they underwent medical tests at the hospital.

“The Command will extend necessary assistance to the bereaved family of ASN Epetito who selflessly fought the battle for public health and safety amid COVID-19 pandemic,”

The other injuries will receive medical treatment until they regain their strength to perform their call of duty once more.
