50 Tricycle Drivers in Mandaluyong Test Positive of Coronavirus Disease

MANDALUYONG CITY – 50 tricycle drivers has been tested positive with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) at the ease of community quarantine.

Jimmy Isidro, City Public Information officer and chief-of-staff of Mayor Carmelita Abalos, said that they have already tested 3,000 tricycle driver. However, 50 out of 3,000 drivers were tested positive with the disease.

“Around 50 of them tested positive in the rapid testing. They have already underwent swab testing,” Isidro told the Manila Bulletin in a phone interview.

Isidro added that the drivers were immediately placed under isolation, while others who take the test are waiting for the result of their confirmatory polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, based on the report of Manila Bulletin.

Previously, Mandaluyong local government allowed tricycle drivers to resume their operations after 2 months of no operation due to enhanced community quarantine (ECQ). The drivers should undergo antibody test as part of the requirements for their resumption.

“Drivers who will be reactive in the test will undergo a confirmatory PCR test in compliance with the protocols of the Department of Health (DOH),” Abalos said.

As per the report, the local government also give guidelines on their operations. One tricycle can only allow one passenger on every transportation. Back riding is not also allowed.

Operators must also install plastic barrier between him and the passenger. Drivers are also required to wear face mask and gloves.

Isidro also said that the city council has approved the fixed P20 tricycle fare. Drivers who will not comply with the said guidelines when they start their operation will face charges if caught.
