FOODPANDA DELIVERY MAN – Health authorities from Davao confirmed that a food delivery runner was positive for the new coronavirus, COVID-19.
One of the industries left operating amid the coronavirus crisis is food delivery services. However, if one of these food delivery men test positive for COVID-19, there could be fatal repercussions.
According to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), the food delivery man failed the rapid diagnostic test (RDT). Moreover, during the confirmatory test, he was found positive for the virus.
Based on a report from Sunstar, the FoodPanda worker tested positive in the real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test. This is the gold standard test in finding if a person is infected with COVID-19.
Following the test, the patient had been placed under quarantine at the Queensland Isolation facility. Patients with mild symptoms of the coronavirus are being isolated there.
As per the report, SPMC chief Dr. Leopoldo Vega said the patient was now recovering and is asymptomatic. Moreover, he said the delivery man was up for another test to see if he was still positive for the virus.
Meanwhile, during a previous radio interview, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio announced that food delivery runners are now included in the contact tracing efforts of the government.
As people whose occupation is to travel and meet people, they could become potential carriers of the disease. With this, Mayor Duterte urged the public using food delivery services to continue being cautious.
