Villar Apologizes To Middle Class Following Backlash After Statement

VILLAR MIDDLE CLASS STATEMENT – Senator Cynthia Villar has always been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons because of her harsh statements.

Recently, the Senator received heavy backlash after saying that the middle class shouldn’t receive cash assistance from the government. She explained that those in that bracket are still getting paid despite the quarantine.

However, as many could see, it was definitely not the case for the majority of the middle-class workers. As such, Villar said she “humbly apologized” for her statement.

According to an article from Inquirer, Villar stated:

My statements during the hearing yesterday was not in any manner meant to be an affront to the hardworking middle class of the country.

She added that she may have framed her questions and statements in way that made her seem insensitive. However, she heavily emphasized that she was not.

As per the article, Villar stated that she was merely concerned about the welfare of the middle-class workers. Following this, she stated that she humbly apologized to those she had offended.

Villar then began to give praise to the middle class saying that they are the backbone of the Philippine economy. Moreover, she added that she recognized the worker’s contributions to the country.

She explained that the intention of her question was to give clarity on the reports of middle-class workers receiving SAP benefits though still employed.

Along with this, she noted that the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) was intended for the unemployed and the poor. Furthermore, she said she wanted lawmakers to be clear about who the target beneficiaries were.
