LTFRB Asks Public Drivers & Conductors To Get Passenger Details for Possible Contact Tracing

LTFRB – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board is ordering the public drivers and conductors to record their passengers.

The fight against COVID-19 in the Philippines is not yet over now. Every day, there are still additional cases of coronavirus and the authorities are not putting the guards down.

Metro Manila, the province of Laguna, and Cebu City are under an Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) now. They are the areas considered high risk for coronavirus.

The other areas in the Philippines are currently under a General Community Quarantine (GCQ) now as per the announcement of the Palace. Governors and mayors have released executive orders announcing the GCQ in their respective places.

In GCQ areas, mass transportation is back but on certain conditions. Some cities implement coding in terms of public jeepneys. Also, a reduced capacity is adapted in the resumption of the public transportation.

Aside from the reduction on the capacity of public transportation, social distancing must be observed at all times. Some jeepney drivers have already put plastic covers or other ways so passengers will practice social distancing inside their vehicles.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board also has an order with regards to possible contact tracing in line with the resumption of the public transportation amid the COVID-19 crisis.

Based on a post of the Philippine Star, the LTFRB ordered the public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and conductors to record their passengers. It is for the purpose of the possible contact tracing once someone who commutes, later on, tested positive for COVID-19.

On the other side, the government body also requests the passengers to record the details of the PUVs they are riding on. As of this writing, there are still no further information about the order. More updates may be posted soon.
