Prime Minister of New Zealand gets no special treatment
No special treatment was given to New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern at a cafe due to the social distancing protocol.
Certain rules are being followed amid the COVID-19 pandemic and one of those is the social distancing or physical distancing in public places. In several areas around the world, the lockdown has been lifted and people are allowed to go out already.
Several establishments also started to open. However, social distancing is still implemented. That means people should keep a 6-feet distance between them. In line with this, restaurants and other food establishments already allow dine in but with limited number of customers.
This rule was observed at a cafe in New Zealand and even Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has to follow that. Based on the report from Inquirer, the PM went to a cafe in Wellington on Saturday with fiance Clarke Gayford and a group of friends.
However, they were turned away from the cafe because the establishment has already reached its customer limit. Gayford explained in a reply to a tweet of a diner who saw them being turned away that it was his responsibility.
“I have to take responsibility for this, I didn’t get organised and book anywhere,” he said. Another diner related to Stuff media that an employee at the cafe “had to awkwardly say it was full and there were no tables, and they left.”
Fortunately, some diners already finished eating and left soon that is why the establishment’s employees were able to run down the street and invite the group of the Prime Minister back into the cafe.
In a Twitter post, based on the report, Ardern’s fiance said, “Was very nice of them to chase us down the street when a spot freed up. A+ service.”
