Barangay Officials From Hagonoy, Bulacan Filed For Graft And Corruption
HAGONOY – The National Bureau of Investigation recently filed charges against 3 barangay officials from Hagonoy, Bulacan for graft and corruption.
The three barangay officials were filed due to alleged anomalies in distributing emergency cash aid during the COVID-19 crisis, according to GMA News.
Named in the complaint filed before the Department of Justice in the capital were:
- Barangay chairman Jason Mendoza
- executive assistant Richard “Boy” Bautista
- kagawad Danilo Flores of Barangay San Agustin
- former kagawad Levi Cosay
- Regine Cosay
Three complainants alleged that Flores, who was with a certain Michael Perez, demanded ₱4,000 from them out of the ₱6,500 they received from the social amelioration program (SAP) last April 27.
Flores claimed that the ₱3,500 will be given to Municipal Mayor Raulito Manlapaz, Sr of the said town in Bulacan. The rest will allegedly go to the frontliners in the town.
“Against their will, complainants gave back to subject Flores the amount of P4,000,”
The NBI added that Flores further threatened them that they would be delisted as beneficiaries of subsequent relief programs should they refuse.
As per the report, the witnesses alleged that the suspect collected ₱117,000 and give it to the Bautista couple. Witnesses further believed that Richard couldn’t have acted on his own without the imprimatur of his boss.
Director Eric Distor of the NBI further urged the public to report any government officials who fails to comply with the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act.
