Broadcaster Shot Dead In Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental
DUMAGUETE CITY – A broadcaster was recently shot dead on Tuesday night in Villa Amada street in Barangay Daro, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
According to SunStar, the victim was identified as Cornelio Pepino, known under the alias “Rex Cornelio”, aged 49, who is a radio anchorman of DYMD Energy FM and a journalist based in the city.
He was onboard his motorcycle with his wife on their way home to Sibulan town after hosting his two-hour long program over the said radio station.
Initial probe states that Cornelio was halted by motorcycle-riding assailants, who then proceeds to shoot him five times at close range.
Among the shots were two on the chest, one on the head, one on the shoulder, and one on the left wrist.
As per the report, fortunately, his wife was unharmed in the incident. The broadcaster was rushed to the Silliman University Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
