According to an article from ABS-CBN, Sotto filed Senate Bill No. 1438 which aims to amend Republic Act (RA) No. 7977. This bill mandates schools to open between the first Monday of June but not later than 31.

In a statement, Sotto explained that the added time would allow the Department of Education to prepare and adopt to the changes required amid the pandemic.

Meanwhile, DepEd said it would conduct a blend of online and offline learning platforms as an alternative amid the viral outbreak. Furthermore, there would still be some areas that could potentially be placed under further quarantine.

As such, Education Secretary Leonor Briones stated not every student would physically attend classes classes once the school year starts.

However, not everybody was happy with DepEd’s announcement of a blend of online classes. Some argue that not all student would be given the opportunity or has the tools needed to join online classes.

But, with the “new normal” that Filipinos need to consider, online classes blended with offline ones may be the best alternative amid the quarantine according to some experts.
