According to Panay News, Esmeralda said that they will not be penalized but rather will be reprimanded instead.

We don’t have provisions in our executive order that penalize these violators. But we will monitor them so they will not repeat what they did,”

The violators came from Barangay Tigbanaba and traversed a popular mountain hiking site called Mt. Napulak for about an hour. The mayor added that they rode motorcycles to reach the mountain.

The violators asked for permission from a councilor on Thursday last week in order to bring farm fertilizer. They said, however, that they had other reasons for the hike.

The town is also under ECQ, in which its protocols are meant to restrict the movement of people such as urging them to stay at home unless necessary.

Netizens gave negative reactions to the violators as the latter posted photos of their hike online. Esmeralda urged the netizens to stop the hate comments.

“I am concerned because they posted photos online (Facebook) and they were bashed. Some of them were minors. I’m afraid the hate comments would adversely affect them,”

The two minors are now handed over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for custody.

As per the report, as for the legal-aged violators, they will be under the custody of the Igbaras police.

A medical doctor, the mayor appealed to the public to stop giving hate reactions as this would bring psychological harm.
