Former Town Official, Spouse Slain In Ambush In Zamboanga Del Norte
ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE – A former town official and his wife was killed in an ambush in a remote place in Zamboanga Del Norte.
According to SunStar, information officer of the Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula Police Major Helen Galvez said that the incident occurred around 9 AM Wednesday, April 29 in a remote barangay of Piacan, Sirawai town, Zamboanga del Norte.
The fatalities were identified as Hadji Lagumbay Galo, aged 51, a former town councilor in the said town and his wife Marida, aged 51, who is a businesswoman.
Galvez added that the victims were aboard a tricycle driven by Galo and was heading to Balonkan village when ambushed by ambushed by unidentified assailants upon reaching the Minanga and Piacan boundary.
As per the report, the couple attended a morning prayer in a mosque in the municipality of Sirawai and at the residence of their tenant, who is a carpenter at the same time, before the incident occurred.
Both victims succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. Police are currently probing the incident.
