However, because of the double diagnoses, the couple stayed together in isolation. Medical staff pushed their beds together so they could hold hands up until their final breath.

According to an article from Metro UK, the couple was able to say “I love you” to each other as they both died due to the virus. Wilford’s life was taken by the virus six hours before Mary, but both were spared a lonely death.

Their granddaughter Natalie Lameska stated that having her grandparent together till their final hours gave their family comfort.

They had been holding hands and that was just heartbreaking to hear but also heartwarming to hear. And we were just so thankful they were together and were aware they were together. It was definitely hard. But it was bittersweet

Natalie and her brother Spencer were able to take turns spending precious moments with their grandparents. However, the family was still unable to determine where their grandparents might have contracted the virus.

Furthermore, Natalie and her family still planned on holding funeral services for Mary and Wilford. But, social distancing protocols called for a small service.
