Construction Workers Make Coin Banks, Grillers out of Scap Metal
Two (2) construction workers creates coin banks and grillers made from scrap metal sheet for exchange of food to survive amid public health crisis.
Since the Philippine government placed the entire Luzon under enhanced community quarantine to contain the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), many Filipinos lost their jobs. As such, local government are handing out relief goods and cash aid to support the living of COVID-affected residents.
Meanwhile, two construction worker make named Teddy Dayao, 40, and Ryan Yanga make some coin bank and griller to survive amid the implemented Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine.
According to them, they collect scraps or unused metal sheets, these materials they use to make these artworks came from the construction site. Dayao said that this are their way to survive the health crisis.”Ginawan ng paraan, mga scrap-scrap na lang papalit ng ulam para mabuhay lang.”
He also added that he did not know what is the situation of his family left in Dumaguete. “Yung mga pamilya namin sa probinsiya ‘di namin alam kung anong nangyayari doon. Si God na lang bahala kung anong mangyayari,” he said.
Based on the report of ABS-CBN News, they exchange their works for meat or canned goods. They said they were offering it at a nearby house or store because they couldn’t sell it elsewhere for fears that they might get arrested. They didn’t also receive any money from the government’s social amelioration program.
Yanga is also worried about her parents in Pampanga because he has no money to send it to them. “Wala rin akong maipadala, wala rin mautangan. Kaysa magnakaw ka, ito na lang po naisip namin. At least po ito marangal,” he said.
