CORONAVIRUS IRAN – The Iranian Health Ministry reported over 500 deaths due to alcohol rumored to cure COVID-19.
According to the report, Iranians drank toxic methanol alcohol in a bid to cure the coronavirus. As such, 525 people have died along with 5,011 individuals poisoned.
Methanol cannot be noticed when smelling or when tasted in drinks. Because of this, manufacturers in Iran taught of adding artificial coloring so the public could easily identify it.
Based on a report from News Hub, Iranian health ministry spokesperson Kianoush Jahanpour reported 90 individuals losing their eyesight. However, an adviser to the ministry said the numbers could be higher.
Patients who suffer from alcohol poisoning need intensive medical care. However, medical facilities had been overrun with coronanvirus patients. Thus, patients may not get the care they required.
Meanwhile, adviser to the health ministry Hossein Hassanian stated the deaths related to methanol were recorded in Iran’s COVID-19 death toll. This was due to some patients dying outside of their hospitals.
Moreover, he estimated around 200 cases of COVID-19 were not recorded. Additionally, alcohol poisoning had a significant spike over the past year in Iran. Between February 20 and April 7, 2020 alcohol poisoning killed over 728 Iranians.
However, in 2019, alcohol poisoning merely killed 66 people. Furthermore, the news of another spike in alcohol poisoning came after US President Donald Trump suggested injecting disinfectants to cure COVID-19.
But, Trump’s suggestion was highly criticized and slammed by health professionals. Currently, a cure for COVID-19 has yet to be found.
