Imelda Papin Defends Herself Amidst Criticism For Singing Iisang Dagat
IMELDA PAPIN DEFENDS HERSELF – Camarines Sur Vice Governor Imelda Papin defended herself and emphasized she is no traitor to the Philippines.
Recently, the Chinese Embassy Manila have produced several pro China posts in their social media accounts. Of these post were statements that denied accounts of wildlife wet markets in China.
However, the majority of Filipino netizens were mostly not happy about the music video they released titled “Iisang Dagat“. The song features how China helped the Philippines amid the COVID-19 crisis.-
Moreover, Chinese Embassy Manila stated the song was an initiative for unity. Additionally, it featured one of the Philippine’s most well-known signers “Imelda Papin”.
But, Filipinos weren’t that happy with Papin’s decision to be involved. Coincidentally, the Chinese Embassy Manila released the video following reports that China continued reclamation activities on the West Philippine Sea.
Thus, Papin received scathing criticisms since the song was released with people calling her a traitor to the country. Furthermore, during an interview with GMA, Papin stated:
Hindi puwede maging traydor ang isang Imelda Papin. Di’ naman tama na sabihin iyon. Hindi naman nila ako binayaran. Ako po ang pinakiusapan, at ang intensyon ng kanta ay para magtulungan tayong lahat
Along with this, she added that she had no idea that the song was part of China’s propaganda.
Hindi ko alam na iyon ay propaganda nila. Puwede natin ilayo roon sa issue ng West Philippine Sea. Kung alanganin tayo, bakit natin tatanggapin?
Moreover, Papin emphasized that when Chinese Embassy Manila approached her, she was assured that the song was about standing together amid the pandemic. Furthermore, she was told the song was supposed to be a tribute to Chinese doctors who flew to the country to aid the battle versus COVID-19.
