Stepdad Shot his Son to Death After Arguing About Coronavirus Lockdown
ATLANTA, GEORGIA – A 42-year-old stepfather has been arrested for killing his stepson following an argument to go out during coronavirus lockdown.
The 16-year-old’s death has sparked controversy between him and his step father about the “stay-at-home” order over the threat of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The incident began unfolding on Wednesday evening.
According to an Atlanta police report, Bernie Hargrove, 42, allegedly shot De’onte Roberts, her nephew, after the teenager decided to left the home despite coronavirus lockdown policy.
In a statement by Atlanta Police Officer Steve Avery, the victim’s mother told reporters early Wednesday morning that the two had a dispute over the teen’s refusal to stay home.
The stepson later returned home and kicked the door leading to the physical assaulting of the two of them where Roberts was shot. It was 8:20 pm when police received a call from the family’s residence because of a shooting incident.
The teenager was rushed to the hospital but later died due to severe wounds. Meanwhile, the suspect was charged with ‘one count of felony murder’ that is set to appear in court.
