He cited various incidents due to intoxicated persons as the basis to urge him to re-impose the ban on the sale and consumption of liquor.

Treñas also noted other reasons such as other important activities undertaken by security personnels, as well as advice coming from various sectors, as per the report from Panay News.

“There were several reported incidents and complaints (of) abuse in (the) consumption of alcohol, and violations of physical distancing measures, hence the need to re-impose the prohibition on the sale and consumption of liquor,”

Executive Order No. 66-A, series of 2020 issued by Mayor Jerry Treñas yesterday morning

The liquor ban covers any form of liquor or alcohol, beverages, or any alcoholic drink which contains a specific percentage of alcohol by volume or weight which may be in the form of the following:

  • whisky
  • brandy
  • gin
  • rum
  • cordial
  • cocktail
  • wine
  • champagne
  • vermouth
  • basi
  • tuba
  • sake
  • beer
  • ale
  • stout
  • other of the like

Furthermore, he warned that those who will violate or violate the ban would be facing criminal and / or administrative charges.

“Nakabaton ako reports sang lain-lain nga insidente. Iban nagmaoy. Iban nagbatu sa pulis. Daw natam-an gid,”

In the case of establishments, if caught, they will face appropriate penalties provided in the local City Tax Code.

As per the report, Treñas admitted that he did not anticipate the effects of lifting the ban. adding that he was surprised.

“I am only human. I make wrong decisions. But I will try to make less of these wrong decisions,”

“Abi ko didto sila sa sulod sang balay mainum kag mapasiguro ang kalinong kag katawhay. Ti, nagwa pa sila. Ang iban waay facemask, nagdugang pa gid sang risk sang (COVID-19) infection.”

He further made a directive to the local city police office, as well as the government’s Public Safety and Transportation Management Office to enforce the ban.
