The liquor ban, which prohibits the sale and consumption of liquor, was lifted as an initial step towards the easing of ECQ, according to Panay News.

He assured the public that this won’t step back the government’s efforts to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus known as SARS-CoV-2.

Despite the lift of the liquor ban, Treñas imposed the following conditions:

  • Prohibit of drinking liquor in public places
  • Observation of social distancing at all times if consuming alcoholic beverages.

He, however, did not disclose who the government limit the number of residents going on a drinking binge in their residences, or ensure that they comply with social distancing protocol.

“Violators would be arrested and charged,”

The mayor is also confident that the lift will not affect the peace and order situation of the city.

As per the report, the regional center of Western Visayas has been in peace under the quarantine as the crime rate dropped, as stated by the ICPO.

The 8 AM to 5 PM curfew is still in effect, says the mayor,

The liquor ban lift is among the things listed in the recently-issued Executive Order (EO) No. 66, series of 2020.

“Effective immediately, the selling of any form of liquor or alcohol beverages, or any alcoholic drink containing a specific percentage of alcohol by volume or weight which may be in the form of whisky, brandy, gin, rum, cordial, cocktail, wine, champagne, vermouth, basi, tuba, beer, sake, stout, ale and the like shall be allowed…,”
