DOTr Looking Into Possible Partial Operations of Trains, Buses

Possible partial operations of trains and buses – DOTr

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is already looking into the possible partial operations of trains and buses amid the enhanced community quarantine.

In line with the fight against the spread of novel coronavirus disease 2019 COVID-19, ECQ was implemented and the national government extended this until April 30 from the prior target date April 15. Business and transportation were affected by this as people are mandated to stay at home as much as possible.

Amid the ECQ, physical distancing is also being observed. With this, bigger public utility vehicles such as trains, buses, and jeepneys have to limit the number of passengers. Later on, transportation companies stopped their operations.

As April 30 is nearing, although there had been reports of a possible extension or modification, DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade said in a recent press briefing that they are already preparing for the partial operation of buses and trains.

However, the decision will be based on the statement that will come from the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF). If this proposition will to a realization, PUVs will operate with 30 percent passenger capacities only, in line with the protocol on physical distancing, based on the Twitter post of GMA reporter Joseph Morong.

In his post, a netizen has this reaction regarding the possible operation again of buses and trains. “Dangerous…W/ mass transpo available expect the crowd …Hard to rely that strict monitoring will be implemented…Flatten the curve then modified ECQ comes in…doing otherwise is like playing the Russian Roulette…” Twitter user @isah20mara2 commented.

What can you say about this? Do you agree on this plan of the transportation department?
