Barangay Kagawad, Tanod Drinking Alcohol While on Duty Arrested
Cauayan City, Isabela – A barangay kagawad, tanod with barangay treasurer and a farmer were arrested after caught drinking alcohol amid liquor ban.
A barangay Kagawad, Tanod along with another barangay treasurer and farmer were jailed after being arrested by police for breaking the liquor ban in barangay Fugu Abajo, Tumauini, Isabela.
According to the report of RMN, the suspects were identified as Edilberto Talaue, 54, Brgy Kagawad, Jose Malazzab, 57, Brgy Tanod, Francisco Callueng Jr., 57, brgy treasurer and Wilson Bacani, 33, farmers and all residents of the village.
Police chief PMaj Rolando Gatan said they were apprehended when they were interrupted by police policemen in a drinking area in their village. According to the arrestees, they drink because they only want to fight their wakeful duty.
Since the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) was implemented throughout the country to contain the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) the government also imposed a liquor ban as this is the apparent reason why people are violating the law.
Violators mostly men are being arrested for violating curfew and enhanced community protocol because of drinking liquor. And because of intoxication it may lead them to disobeying and defaming authorities.
