According to GMA News, presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said on Sunday that the Office of the President understood that there are rebels who need food and other necessities for their survival. HE, however, said that such things should not be obtained by violent meand.

“Resorting to force or duress is unconscionable, especially given the national crisis we are in,”

“In this time of state of calamity and public health emergency, we call on those operating outside of the law not to add burden to the very people they professed to fight for,”

The 8th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army claimed that about 30 suspected NPA members went to Sitio Bangon, Barangay Guinmayohan in Balangiga, Eastern Samar allegedly stole relief goods meant for residents in the area.

The division further cited reports from witnesses that the barangay officials were providing relief packs when the NPA allegedly stole them. They added that the communists took advantage of the crisis.

Colonel Camilo Ligayo, commander of the 801st Infantry Brigade, condemn the said act and assured the public that the troops would do their duties in ensuring peace and order in the society.

As per the report, Panelo said that should they persist in their acts, authorities shall repulse them at every turn.
