CHINA RESTRICTS PUBLICATION OF RESEARCH – Publication of academic research on the origins of COVID-19 have been restricted.

As the world continues to struggle with the coronavirus pandemic, China imposed a new government directive. According to an article from CNN, two Chinese universities revealed China’s plan to censor all academic research on COVID-19 origins.

However, since revealing the new policy online, the post was quickly deleted. But, Based on the new policy, studies on the origins of COVID-19 must be “approved” by central government officials.

Meanwhile, a medical expert from Hong Kong who partnered with researchers from China did not receive such scrutiny. Together, the released a clinical analysis of coronavirus cases to an international medical journal.

As per the article, the government’s new policy was their latest effort towards shifting the narrative on the origins of the virus. Moreover, since late January, Researchers from China published a series of Coronavirus studies in influential international medical journals.

Some of the journals contained studies regarding early COVID-19 cases. Importantly, some of the research contained early accounts of human-to-human transmissions of the virus first appeared.

But, these raised questions due to inconsistencies with government reports when compared to the research. As such, a controversy had yet again bloomed in Chinese social media.

In lieu of this, China’s government had tightened their hold on the publication of research regarding COVID-19. Furthermore, a Chinese researcher spoke to CNN and said that the government’s new policy was a worrying development.

I think it is a coordinated effort from Chinese government to control the narrative, and paint it as if the outbreak did not originate in China
