The Panotsa is a type of muscovado, the other types are Class A (Golden Brown), B (Brown), C (Wood Brown) and Panocha.

This time, we’re going to talk about something that would satisfy your sweet tooth, the Panocha. The candy is made up of crystalized muscovado (brown sugar) filled with peanuts. As such, the English word for it is “Peanut Britle”.

Traditionally, the candy became popular during the olden times as people started to crystallize brown sugar with limewater and pouring it into a coconut shell till it got hard. Afterward, the hardened mixture is broken into pieces and was made as a tea sweetener.

Based on Webster’s New World College Dictionary, the word Penuche was described as a candy that looks similar to fudge. Additionally, it was made with brown sugar (much like our Panocha). milk, butter, and occasionally, nuts.

Furthermore, the word panocha was derived from the Spanish people. It meant a coarse grade of brown Mexican Sugar. Sometimes, it is also spelled as “Panuche” in areas where Spanish was also spoken.
