Visayas Plans Mass Coronavirus Testings After Receiving Test-Kit Donations

VISAYAS PLANS MASS TESTINGS – As a measure against the COVID-19 pandemic, Visayas was reported to be gearing up for mass testings.

Recently, Presidential Adviser for the Visayas, Michael Lloyd Dino stated that the region had received around 50,000 additional donations of test-kits.

According to a report from ABS-CBN, Visayas already had 40,000 test kits. Half of these were donated by the Cebu City Government to Vicente Sotto Memorial Center.

Furthermore, the remaining kits were donations from the Christina Lee Dino foundation and Manila casino operator Kim Wong.

Meanwhile, there have been several local governments in the region that have imposed a lockdown following Luzon’s quarantine. Currently, the province of Negros is under an enhanced community quarantine as well.

Currently, there have been close to 800,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 worldwide. In addition, over 37,000 have died due to the virus. Meanwhile, 165,607 have recovered from it.

As of Monday, the Philippines had reported a total of 1,546 cases of COVID-19. Additionally, the virus had caused 78 fatalities with 42 patients recovering from the disease.

With the addition of new test kits, the daily average for the number of COVID–19 tests done would increase from 300 to 1000. However, the World Health Organization still advised countries to begin mass testings asap.

As the Philippines begin testing more people, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III stated that the number of confirmed cases would also see an increase.

Meanwhile, experts from WHO estimated that around 70,000 Filipinos would be infected by the virus. In addition, the virus would cause around 2,400 deaths in the country.
