Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez urges manufacturers to produce alcohol 24/7 to normalize the supplies in every store as demand surge due to COVID-19.

Based on the report of ABS-CBN News, the supply of alcohol in stores can be ‘normalized’ once manufacturers continue to produce for 24 hours to meet rising demand due to the treat of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), said Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez.

Lopez said that they spoke to alcohol companies to assured that they are operating 24/7. He said that the supply of alcohol will be stable in the days to come, but added, the supply, for now, is really small.

“Tinawagan namin ang alcohol companies kahapon ang assurance sa amin 24 hours ang operations nila. Siguro magnonormalize ito in the days to come pero masasabi natin ngayon manipis talaga,” Lopez told DZMM. 

Panic buying after the government placed Luzon under enhanced community quarantine wiped out stocks of disinfectant in stores, Lopez said. Lopez added that only medical experts could say if the homemade disinfectant is effective.

Recently, consumers went into panic buying of sanitary essentials such as alcohol due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) threat in the Philippines. Alcohols runs out of stock due to bulk buyers and hoarders.

Meanwhile, grocery stores, drug store and supermarket set limit when buying alcohol to avoid hoarders at the same time of consumers can avail. They limit 2 alcohol per person.
