However, based on backlogs of the Department of Health (DOH), these numbers are still “artificial”. As such, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire stated:

The test results that are being announced may not be timely. These are old cases, and we’re just catching up (with testing). That’s why we’re saying it might be an artificial rise

Within 48 hours, the country saw a significant rise in the number of coronavirus cases. Previously, the DOH reported 77 new cases on March 21. Since then, the number of reported cases grew daily.

Currently, the Philippines has confirmed 552 cases of COVID-19. Yesterday, the country reported 90 additional cases. However, according to a report from ABS-CBN, Vergeire said the country will be able to see actual trends.

In the coming days, when we’re done with the backlogs, we’ll be able to see the real increase or decrease of numbers of cases in the country

Previously, the World Health Organization predicted that the Philippines would see a massive spike in cases. As such, Vergeire, who was questioned regarding this, said it would depend on how effective current countermeasures are.

Moreover, she emphasized that if we do not enforce stringent measures, the country would experience a peak in 2 to 3 months. Following this, Vergeire stated that the new estimates could reveal when the Peak of COVID-19 would happen. Along with this, how long the outbreak will remain.

Currently, there are 422,991 cases of COVID-19 worldwide. Additionally, the virus caused 18,905 fatalities. Meanwhile, the number of recovered had reached 109,143.
