Japan, also known as the “Land of the Rising Sun” Is an archipelagic country in the eastern region of Asia.

It is divided into 8 regions and 47 prefectures; and the mainland archipelago composed of about 6, 852 islands. the archipelago stretches at about 3,000 kilometers from the Sea of Okhotsk and Philippine Sea in the southwest to South up to the northeastern coast of the Eurasia (Europe and Asia) continent.

  • Kyushu (九州) | Nine Provinces
    • The third largest island. It is also known as:
      • Kyūkoku (九国) | Nine Countries
      • Chinzei (鎮西) | West of the Pacified Area
      • Tsukushi-no-shima (筑紫島) | Island of Tsukushi
  • Shikoku (四国) | Four Provinces
    • The fourth largest island. It is known as:
      • Iyo-no-futana-shima (伊予之二名島)
      • Iyo-shima (伊予島)
      • Futana-shima (二名島)
  • Okinawa Island (沖縄本島)
    • The largest of all the Okinawa islands and the Ryukyu islands and the smallest of the five.
