In Fight Against COVID-19 Atenean Medical Interns Produce Protective Gear For Frontliners

ATENEAN MEDICAL INTERNS – The Philippines had seen an increasing trend in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases.

As such, the President had imposed an enhanced community lockdown in Luzon. Moreover, the President was granted emergency powers in order to address the coronavirus crisis.

Meanwhile, frontliners such as doctors and other officials continue to fight the battle against COVID-19. However, there had been a shortage of supplies.

That’s why medical interns from Ateneo took the initiative and produced their own protective equipment to assist frontliners.

The interns were pulled out from their assigned hospitals due to the viral threat. But, this didn’t stop them from joining the fight against the virus.

At this time, we are finding different ways we can help the frontliners in the hospitals. And one way that we found is by making alternative face shields for our frontliners.

On their Facebook page, they emphasized the need to produce PPEs (Personal Protective Equipment). They said the PPEs are essential in the management of patients to prevent catching or spreading disease.

We could recall that an Italian doctor had died after he was forced to work without protective gloves due to a shortage. As such, the need for PPEs is definitely important.

According to their post, they based their face shields on videos and posts doctors have shared on social media. Due to stores closing down, they needed to adapt by using different materials.

Following this, the group stated that they have donated their products to the Medical City. Additionally, they plan to send it to their school’s partner hospitals like:

  • Ospital ng Makati
  • Rizal Medical Center
  • Community Health Centers in Payatas
