According to GMA, the warning followed after reports that some barangay officials issue quarantine passes and selling them to their constituents.

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said that the quarantine passes should be distributed for free, assuring the public that those involved in unscrupulous activities will be punished.

“Huwag  po nating abusuhin yan at huwag po tayong mag-take advantage sa calamity na ‘to dahil po maaari ‘yung maximum penalty pa po ang maaaring isampa po [laban] sa inyo,”

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) earlier set up hotlines that the public can call should they wish to complain about local officials who are taking advantage of the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon due to the threat of the Cornavirus disease 2019.

The DILG added that there are two barangay heads were recently reprimanded in Taguig City following complaints from residents that the two allegedly charge ₱50 in order to allow people to leave the villages.

As per the report, the department added that sihould the barangay needs funds to address the viral crisis, they should seek aid of their respective mayor or governor rather than charging their constituents.
