COVID-19 Took 3 Months To Reach 100,000 Cases & 12 Days To Reach Another 100,000
COVID-19 CASES – A real-life example of an exponential function that many people fail to grasp just how quickly numbers shoot up once enough traction is gained.
The year 2020 seems like a never-ending zest pool of problems stacking-up on each other. In January, there were less than 25 deaths due to the mystery virus know today as COVID-19.
However, 3 months later, the virus was declared as a pandemic, infecting close to 200,000 individuals globally. It took the virus 3 months and 7 days to reach the 100,000 cases. Afterward, the new coronavirus took 12 days to reach close to 100,000 more.
Currently, there are 198,518 known cases of the new coronavirus. Along with this, 7,988 people have died due to the virus. But, according to statistics from World O Meter, the number of recovered reached more than 82,763.
As the outbreak was in its infant stages, several experts have warned governments about the catastrophic effects of COVID-19. However, due to the lack of transparency and untested cases, the virus grew exponentially.
In South Korea, a single patient caused about 80% of the infections in the country. Meanwhile, a recent study showed that 86% of coronavirus cases spread from those unaware they were infected with the virus.
In the early days of the virus, Virologist Dr. Guyan Yi said the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan was already “uncontrollable”.
“I have experienced so much and never felt scared. Most viruses are controllable, but this time I am scared.”Dr. Guan Yi
Dr. Guan Yi who was in the center of the outbreak said that he had to “escape” after observing an appalling lack of preventative measures by the local authorities.
