In a report of PhilStar, three police officers of the Southern Police District (SPD) were caught in the act drinking while on duty inside their headquarters in Taguig City. It was their acting district director who caught the three.

According to SPD acting director Col. Emmanuel Peralta, he and six other officers were conducting rounds inside the SPD Headquarters around 6 pm on Sunday, March 15, when he caught three officers drinking.

He identified the policemen as Executive Master Sergeant Dennis Matriano, Cpl. Misael Ruby, and Staff Sergeant Marvin Hipolito, all officers of the SPD Discipline, Law, and Order Section. Three liters of alcoholic beverages, five glasses and two plates of foods were confiscated from the police.

Maj. Gen. Debold Sinas, director of the National Capital Region Police Office, disarmed and has assigned the three to SPD control points. Regional Investigation and Detective Management are preparing administrative cases against them.

According to the National Police Commission’s Memorandum Circular 2007-001 it is strictly forbidden for police officers to gamble and intoxicants while on duty and in uniform of the PNP, said Maj. Gen Sinas. He said the three were aware of the directive and they were all assigned to the SPD Discipline, Law and Order Section.

“This should serve as a warning to all. This is a clear act of disobedience and I will not tolerate this kind of action. I will assure you that sanctions will be served. More inspections will continue in adherence to our Internal Cleansing Policy,” said Maj. Gen. Sinas.
