Early last week, Duterte also held a meeting with IATF and Metro Manila Mayors he declared a state of public health emergency due to the threats of COVID-19. On Thursday, Duterte imposed a 30-day “community quarantine” in Metro Manila as health officials raised the alert system for the Covid-19 to Code Red sublevel 2.

The community quarantine halts land, domestic air, and domestic sea travel to and from Metro Manila until April 14. The President also extended the suspension of classes in the National Capital Region until April 12 to contain the impact of Covid-19.

Health officials have so far recorded 140 cases, including 12 confirmed deaths from the virus in the Philippines. For now, provinces and cities outside NCR are now imposing community quarantine and travel ban to prevent the spreading of virus.
