According to GMA News, Archie Gamboa, chief of PNP said that the policemen also needed to guard themselves from the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus disease 2019).

“Actually ‘yun nga hinihingi namin basic. We just need face mask at saka gloves. As a matter of fact ‘yung aming uniform na ginagamit ‘yung para kasi ito long sleeves na siya. Actually kailangan pa nga dapat ng goggles, raincoat pero immediately kasi we have to implement,”

“Hindi naman kasi namin puwede hintayin ito lahat. We are mandated to do something so alam namin ‘yung risk we are going into but nevertheless kailangan gawin eh,”

Gamboa added that he has talked with National Capital Region Police Office chief Police Major General Debold Sinas about the lack of face mask and gloves.

In an interview in Valenzuela City, Philippine National Police Deputy Chief for Operations Polcie Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar said that the cops still need thermal scanners, adding that several local agencies had promised to provide the said scanners.

“Kailangan natin ng thermal scanners. Nagsabi na ang ating Chief PNP na si General Gamboa, naglabas ng pondo para maghanap dito at nag-commit naman ang ibang LGU na tutulong din sila,”

Based on the report, as of the moment, the NCRPO was looking for suppliers who could provide the scanners at affordable prices.

These were needed to appropriately screen people going in and out of the National Capital Region (NCR).
