DOH Says 40% Of Covid-19 Cases Had No Contact To Known Cases

DOH ON COVID-19 – The Department of Health reported that about 40% of COVID-19 cases had no contact with previously known cases.

Due to the rising cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines, President Rodrigo Duterte declared a community quarantine in Metro Manila. Likewise, the city of Bacolod also followed in an announced quarantine in the city.

According to Health Secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, they are identifying the index cases which spread the infection in the Philippines.

This meant that almost half of the patients infected with COVID-19 were not in contact with previous cases. Moreover, the statement explained that cases are spread across different areas.

Importantly, it meant that there are more undetected cases of COVID-19.

As the number of cases continued to Rise, the DOH faced criticisms that they were hiding the real COVID-19 count.

As the Philippines is facing hardships due to the spread of COVID-19, residents are urged to adhere to social distancing. However, huge crowds were still seen on the first day of the quarantine in Metro Manila.

Social distancing is also important as with the case of Patient 31 in South Korea. After showing symptoms, the patient failed to conduct proper social distancing and caused 80% of the infections in the country.
