DOH MONITORS 250 – The Philippines had confirmed its first cases of local transmission if the new coronavirus, COVID-19.

Recently, health authorities from the Philippines confirmed 10 cases of the new coronavirus. Along with this, its first case of local transmissions.

Meanwhile, a balikbayan who went to a reunion in the Philippines tested positive for COVID-19 as she returned to Australia.

With this, the Department of Health (DOH) began monitoring of at least 250 people who were in contact with the balikbayan in during a reunion party in the Philippines.

According to a report from the Manila Bulletin, Gov. Amado Espino III said the Filipino-Australian attended a high school reunion in Dagupan City.

He added that the province was now facing an emergency situation. However, the Governor denied that the venue of the reunion was the Sison Auditorium.

As per the report, the DOH 1 Director Valeriano Jesus Lopez stated that no one among the 250 person placed under monitoring revealed symptoms of COVID-19.

As such, Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil said proper contract tracing was established for the Fil-Aussie who visited the country.

With reference to the recent news of a kababayan from Australia who attended a wedding in Manila, a high school reunion and other activities in Pangasinan in mid-Feb and reported positive of COVID-19 on her return to Australia last March 2, 2020, coordination is being done with appropriate agencies for proper contact tracing.

Additionally, the mayor emphasized that places with high volumes of people such as markets and municipal halls have instituted thermal monitoring. Aside from this, cleansing and facemask were encouraged.
