This request followed the confirmation of the new coronavirus cases in the Philippines.

There were now three confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines. Yesterday, two cases were confirmed while the third confirmed case was announced today.

Meanwhile, during an interview with Super Radyo dzBB, Tiangco stated that he requested DepEd to pass all the students as there were only 2-3 weeks left for the school year.

Ako ay nakiusap sa DepEd na kung puwede ipasa na lang lahat ng mga bata for this school year… para wala nang pasok for the rest of the year… Mas importante naman ho siguro ‘yung buhay ng mga bata kaysa ‘yung ituloy pa nila ‘yung two or three weeks ng pag-aaral,

In addition, he said that school could just use the average grades of the students for the past quarter as a basis to pass their final grades.

May general average naman ‘yung mga bata as of this time, so baka naman pwe-pwedeng kung ano ‘yung general average nila, ‘yun na lang ang maging grado nila .

As per the interview, he emphasized that what we really want is the safety of the students. Along with this, he highlighted the importance of school.

Ang gusto ho natin is ‘yung maging safe… doon tayo sa mas safe diba po? Alam niyo naiintindihan ko, importante [ang] aral, importante ‘yung grado, sa isang taon meron pa’ng pag-kakataon, eh

Navotas had earlier canceled classes at all levels for both public and private schools on Monday. However, Health Secretary Francisco Duque said canceling of classes was the right of the local government, but not recommended.
