BIR Padlocks Manila Cockers Club Due to P1.3 Billion Unpaid Taxes
BIR – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) padlocked 19 braches of Manila Cockers Club for failing to pay their P1.3 billion taxes.
The duties of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is to assess and collect all the revenue taxes, charges, and fees from working individuals and companies in the country.
The agency is under the Department of Finance and is currently headed by Caesar R. Dulay. BIR has offices in different regions in the county and ready to cater services to the public.
BIR has the power to close down businesses if they fail to pay taxes. Based on a report from Inquirer, the government agency temporarily closes down the online betting operations of the Manila Cockers Club for failing to pay P1.3 billion taxes.
Citing the report of BIR Commissioner Caesar Dulay, Finance Secretary Carlos G. Dominguez III stated that the agency’s “Oplan Kandado” operation shut down a total of 51 online betting machines across 19 of their branches in Quezon City.
According to the report, the raid was led by BIR Deputy Commissioner Marissa O. Cabreros.20 BIR teams took part in the raid.
“We counted more than 100 outlets spread all over, so we will gradually visit them with available manpower,” Dulay said.
Based on the report, Manila Cockers Club was a fully-owned subsidiary of Manila Jockers Club Inc, said on its website. They got their license to operate at the local government of Carmona, Cavite.
“The permits of Manila Cockers Club’s ‘off-cockpit betting stations’ are granted by the local government units (LGUs) where they operate as mandated by the Cockfighting Law and the Local Government Code,” MCC said.
Their online betting stations will remain closed until they pay their fines and taxes.
