State of Calamity Declared by President Duterte in Calabarzon Due to Effects of Taal Eruption

President Duterte has declared a state of calamity in Calabarzon due to the effects of Taal Volcano Eruption last month.

Mr. Rodrigo Duterte approved the Proclamation 906 declaring the state of calamity in the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon after the eruption of Taal Volcano in January.

The president made the declaration to implementing rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations to the affected residents. The government and private sectors would also control the prices of grocery products and basic commodities in the affected areas.

The 74-year-old politician also directed all concerned agencies and all departments to coordinate with affected localities. Law enforcement agencies are also ordered to take necessary action to ensure the peace and order in areas affected by the eruption.

Last month. Mr. Duterte also urged Congress to pass a bill aiming to release a P30-billion supplemental budget to support the restoration and rehabilitation of devastated by the eruption of Taal.

Nearly two weeks ago, the state seismology agency lowered the alert status of Taal Volcano after showing a decreased level of unrest after its initial eruption.
