Manny Pacquiao Files Bill Seeking To Increase Retirement Age of Military Personnel
MANNY PACQUIAO – Fighting Senator Manny Pacquiao filed a bill seeking to extend the retirement age of military personnel to 60.
Filipino professional boxer and senator Manny Pacquiao is an eight-division world boxing champion. In 2006, he was enlisted in the Army reserve force with the rank of sergeant. He is now a reservist officer with a rank of colonel in the Philippine Army.
The 41-year-old Pinoy pride was elected as a Senator during the 2016 election. He will serve a 6-year term until 2022.
Based on a report from GMA News, Senator Manny Pacquiao recently filed a bill seeking to extend the compulsory retirement age enlisted men and military officers from 56 years old to 60.
The boxing champ said in his Senate Bill 1370 that with the medical innovation and the technological advancements, the lives of the people and military men have been prolonged.
According to the report, Manny Pacquiao stated that the increase of compulsory retirement has been shown in different countries such as Germany, Australia, and Belgium where their retirement age has been increased to 67.
Under Senate Bill 1370, upon reaching 60-years-old or upon the accumulation of 30 years in service, a military officer shall be compulsorily retired. Pacquiao’s bill seeks to amend Presidential Decree 1638 and 1650.
