Poe slams Cayetano in line with his ‘sipsip’ remark
Poe Slams Cayetano – Senator Grace Poe reacted to the “sipsip” remark of Representative Alan Peter Cayetano regarding the Senate hearing on the ABS-CBN franchise issue.
The House Speaker questioned the constitutionality of the Senate hearing saying that it should be first done in the lower chamber before Senators will discuss this.
However, based on the report from Inquirer, Sen. Poe answered this by saying that “it’s in the Constitution that grants both houses the right for oversight.” She added, “Section 6 Article 21 allows us to conduct hearings in aid of legislation and to find out if the franchise holders are compliant with the agreements that they have with the government.”
According to the Senate Public Services Committee chairperson, they will not release a report until a “similar measure is approved by the House of Representatives.
Following this, Cayetano said that the Senate hearing regarding the ABS-CBN franchise renewal will just be beneficial to those who want to gain favor from the media company. He calls those individuals as “sipsip”. “Parang naga-attendance ngayon lahat ng gustong sumipsip sa ABS-CBN,” the Speaker of the House previously said.
With this statement from the Representative, Sen. Poe answered: “You know when I deal with counterparts from the House, at least, me personally and I think many of my colleagues, we try to maintain a level of respect and decorum because name-calling cheapens the debate.”
She also said that name-calling and using those kinds of words will mean that you are running out of the basis for the right argument, based on the report.
