40 Members Of Moro Islamic Liberation Front Captured In Talakag Town

TALAKAG TOWN – About 40 individuals who are suspected to be members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front were arrested in Talakag town.

According to SunStar, they were arrested due for illegal possession of guns and explosives in the said town in Bukidnon on Monday (February 24).

Via a Simultaneous Aggressive Police Operation (Sapo), members of the local police arrested the 40 individuals thought to be members of the said Islamic group who are from the Von Bashier Unit, Camp Badar Talangan Maguindanao under the command of Abdulbasser Sulaiman Tahir Base Commander.

Police reports said that the 40 were on a truck and was headed for the MNLF Camp Madaya Basak in the said town.

Major Silvestre Asiong, officer from the Bukidnon police information said that they were reportedly in the town as reinforcement to help secure one of their members who killed a resident in the area.

“There was a shooting incident last February 21 where a man died and the suspect, is one of their members. We asked them to surrender the suspect and face the consequences. But instead, nag-request naman hinuon sila ug reinforcement, basin maka-cause pa ug tension sa area,”

According to the report, seized from their possession were an M14 US rifle, fragmentation grenade, handheld radio and ammunition.

The arrested members were later turned over to the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, said Asiong. They will be charged for violation of Republic Act (RA) No. 10591 and RA 9516.
