Duterte Tells Filipinos to Rise Above Petty Political Differences
Metro, Manila – President Rodrigo Duterte tells Filipinos to rise above petty political differences and seeks end about it on Edsa day.
President Rodrigo Duterte urged Filipinos to set aside petty political differences as part of his message to celebrate the 34th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution. ” He also seeks to end it to have an adverse impact on the country’s democracy.
In a report of PNA, Dutert described EDSA People Power as “one of the most remarkable events in our nation’s history” as it restored democracy using non-violent protests, his message to Filipinos. The President continued that we must ensure that the legacy of EDSA will be commemorated and not forgotten.
“Inspired by the freedoms that we secured in February 1986, let us all rise above our petty political differences so that we may, together, ensure that the legacy of EDSA will remain relevant in the years ahead,” said on the statement.
The 1986 Edsa People Power Revolution gathered millions of Filipinos along Edsa to put an end to Marcos’ dictatorship. Duterte acknowledged that the bloodless revolt remains “one of the most remarkable events in our nation’s history” as it was the peaceful uprising to the ouster of Marcos.
“I therefore, join the valiant heroes of Edsa and the countless others whose lives were touched by this bloodless uprising in commemorating its 34th Anniversary with renewed hope that the succeeding generations of Filipinos will also have the courage, strength, and determination to protect, defend, and preserve the liberties that we have won during that historic revolution,” statement said.
This year, Presidential spox Salvador Panelo had earlier said the President will miss the celebration again. Spox Panelo said the President will just stay at home and work as the rest of the country enjoy the holiday.
