Court of Appeals Orders Reinstatement of 51 GMA Employees Who Were Fired After Holding Protest
The Court of Appeals ordered the reinstatement of 51 GMA employees who were terminated after holding a protest.
CA issued an order dated February 19 declared that the 51 workers as regular and they are entitled to all benefits and back wages. The Kapuso network said that their talent agreements denied that the talents were their employees.
GMA-7 said that the talents were independent contractors whose services can be terminated upon breaching their contracts. The Kapuso station also explained that the workers are required to comply with the network’s demands when it comes to the work quality.
“Reinstatement without loss of seniority rights, full backwages inclusive of allowance, and any and all benefit regular employees of GMA receives computed from the time his or her compensation was withheld up to the time of his or her actual reinstatement,” the appellate court said.
The GMA workers were allegedly fired or their talent agreements were not renewed after holding a protest against their network. The employees accused 15 of the protesters neglected their duties by not reporting to work.
