According to SunStar, one suspect, who was said to be the alleged leader of the armed men in a shootout on February was slain during a hot pursuit operation.

The said two suspects were arrested and was about to be transported by policemen to the Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail (MOPJ) when they, too, were killed.

Police Colonel Robert Roy Bahian, Misamis Oriental Police Provincial Director dismissed speculations that the killing of the said suspects was in retaliation for the death of Police Staff Sergeant Ronald Caayupan.

Caayupan was slain when five armed men, who were on a white car, fired at him and other police officers who were stationed at a checkpoint in the said town that day.

Jephone Tinamisan, one of the armed men, was shot dead on Monday. This was followed with the slaying of three more suspects, hence, leading to one who is at large.

Combined forces from different police units killed Alias Bolaw in a hot pursuit operation in Poblacion, Libertad around 6:20 AM.

Bolaw, who held an explosive was engaged by the police.

As per the report, Bahian said that Bolaw was said to be the leader of the shootout,

“Mao ni ilang leader. Initially, Martilyo gang ni sila. Naa pud tay analysis nga Ozamis group pud ni sila basi sa ilang mga address,”

The slain two suspects who were shot dead were identified as Richard Son Perez and Mikee Abellana. Both asked for a bathroom break when the police car that transported them had mechanical problems in Laguindingan town.

“Mao tong gibalhin ang posas sa atubangan kay nananghid sila nga mangihi human madaotan ang sakyanan,”

“Ang akong analysis ani, giplanohan gyud nila nga mangilog og armas,”

The suspects reportedly grabbed the gun of a police escort and fired. Fortunately, not one of them hit any of the officers.

Police returned fire and shot the suspects in the chest. They were unable to reach the hospital alive.
