52 MORE CORONAVIRUS CASES – South Korea has been the country with the largest number of coronavirus cases aside from mainland China.

Health authorities from South Korea had confirmed 52 new cases of the novel coronavirus or COVID-19 on Friday. With this, the total number of cases now adds up to 156.

43 were from Daegu, the southern city in the middle of the country’s outbreak along with its neighboring provinces.

Daegu is 300 km southeast of Seoul, it also neighbors North Gyeongsang Province. In addition, another three were reported in Seoul, the Korea Centre for Disease Control and Prevention said in a statement.

Of the 52 new cases, 39 are linked to the Shincheonji Church of Jesus in Daegu. Around 1,000 members of the church have been asked to self-isolate.

According to an article from The Guardian, Yonhap had also reported that military personnel had been confirmed of having COVID-19. Three cases were confirmed, one each in the army, the navy and the air force, it said.

All three are believed to have visited or contacted people from Daegu. Meanwhile, in the capital, Seoul, officials are taking measures to curtail the virus, including banning rallies and closing down Shincheonji church services, Yonhap said.
