Previously, the Philippines had already banned travel from mainland China. In addition, it also banned its administrative regions, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan due to the coronavirus cases.

In an interview with DZMM, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III stated:

Yong risk assessment ipi-present ko mamaya sa inter-agency task force kung napapanahon ba na i-exclude natin ang Taiwan o Hong Kong; o kung dapat ba nating i-include ang Singapore

I’m going to present the risk assessment later on our conclusion to excluded Taiwan or Hong Kong from the ban or include Singapore.

As per the interview, he then stated that he wanted very independent and objective parameters or criteria when making the assessment.

Singapore had confirmed at least 58 cases of the COVID-19 and had raised their alert level to the same level during the 2002-2003 SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) outbreak.

Singapore is home to about 200,000 Filipinos based on numbers presented by the Philippine Embassy. Taiwan, on the other hand, has had 18 cases of the virus.

In addition, Taiwan said that it was considering imposing countermeasures if the Philippines did not lift the travel ban ordered just this week.

Meanwhile, in mainland China, the government changed its metric of counting patients with cases of coronavirus. Yesterday there was an additional 13,840 cases of the virus confirmed in Hubei.

The figure 14,840 already includes both tests confirmed cases and clinically diagnosed patients. With this, the Chinese government explained that it would now be adding “clinically diagnoses cases” in the tally.
